Wykes opening home match of the season

A sunny morning in Wyke park is a rarity in itself especially over the last couple of weeks! With the weather been its usual self and our pitch not been the best in inclement weather this proved to be the under 10's 2nd league match this year. We were to welcome Emley Moor who had 6 games already under their belt the season, brought a small team over to compete.

Both teams started off strong. The boys of Emley Moor (most of them called Jack) we fast both on and off the ball and it was evident that they have had more game time this year so far. Wyke held them off for a while but were outpaced on a couple of occasions in situations where our defence had lacked we were just no quick enough to make it back.

The score line could have looked worse if it wasn't for our impressive performance from the Full back Ethan Read who manage to cover every blade of grass on the field during the course of the match. With some impressive tackling by Aidan Cartwright and Alfie Barraclough who we high up in the tackle count for the game, it managed to keep Emley Moor out on a couple of occasions.

Despite our defence not been as strong as what it normally is, the coaches will take some positives out of this game. Some impressive ball catching skills were on display from Carter Moore and Josh Keegan- Josh's was caught in spectacular style in order to provide him with his first try of the season.

Strong displays by Ethan Dolan and Abigail Birkett were unnoticed either as Abigail managed to get both player and opposition player of the match for her pure determination when she had the ball. Ethan Dolan is getting stronger and stronger every week and it is great to see.
