Wyke Under 8’s entertained King Cross at Wyke Park this weekend.
These 2 sides have come across each other quite a few times over the last year, and they have always been close encounters, but they have always been away. Wyke were looking to use the home tie to their advantage, and they didn’t disappoint.
Wyke started strong and scored a try on the opening set. They built on this making a dent into the King Cross side by going over twice more before King Cross found their feet. An improved performance by Lucas Range Bennett
Some strong running by Alfie Barraclough a Logan Metcalfe seem to break through most sets, with Alfie Ending up scoring 5 tries throughout the match. Logan ended up with 2 but could have easily been more if not for some try saving tackles at the end.
The boys quietened off in the second half and that let King cross through with a couple of tries, from a couple of really well timed passes to let through the faster boys round the side, as at this point they had stopped trying to get through the middle of Wyke’s defence, and each time they were being met by Charlie Mcshera who tackling was immense throughout the game.
Andrew Parkin and Aidan Cartwright although quieter than normal kept their tackle count high with strong performance throughout and Josh Keegan our new recruit got stuck in and put his body on the line on more than one occasion.
Bailey Tailford made himself known this game by getting himself a hat trick and opposition man of the match. The game was a really close encounter right until the end. With Wyke winning by 13-11 and providing a brilliant game of junior rugby.
