Birstall Victoria at home

On a sunny Sunday morning Wyke were at home again for the second time in as many weeks and with some more new recruits things were looking positive. Wyke were slow out of the blocks but soon started to warm up with some good running from Lucas range Bennett, Logan Metcalfe and Bailey Tailford. It wasn't long until went went a try down from a great offload but other than that the defence was solid with Andrew Parkin leading the way. It wasn't long until Aidan Cartwright crossed the line to level things up. Soon after Wyke were on the back foot and struggled to keep up with the pace of some of the Birstall boys, but that was the only way they got to the line was going round us because Wykes Alfie Barraclough, Andrew Parkin and Deacon McGuire were holding the Fort in the middle. As we approached half time Wyke we're loosing by a few scores.

As we entered the second half Wyke made a few substitutions and this allowed new boy Ryan Hartley a run out to which he didn't disappoint. Also Thomas Croft, Robbie Garside and Brooklyn Fynn all entered the game and some quick plays allowed Aidan Cartwright to cross the line again. some great defensive play from Connor McGuinness to help his team mates stay in touch was greatly appreciated. It wasn't long until the pace of birstall caught us out again but the Wyke boys never gave in with some great runs and some fancy footwork from the smallest man on the pitch Mark Gummery. Alfie Barraclough took the ball at pace and brushed aside half a dozen defenders to cross for Wykes third try. The tackle of the match then came from Aidan Cartwright who bundled a Birstall player straight into touch as he was about to put the ball down for another try.

Next weekend the Wyke boys will made the journey to Hunslet.
