Heworth away

Under 8's dusted off their boots after a short easter break for the long journey over to Heworth for this fixture. We were down on numbers with only 9 of our boys travelling today, but that didn't seem to bother us. On a very wide pitch, we let in a couple of tries at the beginning of the match, and some beautiful footwork from heworths number 1 caught us every time. But after half time Wyke picked up, coach Sean was behind them at every set spurring them on, every boy got on the tackle count today, some brilliant tackling from Lucas Range-Bennett and Alfie Barraclough, who walked one of their players half way back the pitch. Even our quieter members of the team got a few tackles behind them today, Harrison Cain and Robbie Garside really made themselves known.
The boys got used to the wide pitch very quickly and it really suited Lucas Range-Bennett as he scored 2 tries around the Heworth team using the width as his advantage. This soon spurred the rest of the team and Charlie McShera ended up getting 5 tries, his confidence really came on with his strong running and some brilliant tackles. Also up there on the tackle count was Andrew Parkin and Connor McGuinness who never stopped throughout the game. Andrew even scored a full length try, which on this pitch was quite an achievement. Josh blowes was not to be outdone today with some really strong running, narrowly missing a scoring opportunity, and constant performance from Mark Gummery made for a fantastic game. All the boys gelled really well. The listened and couldn't of provided a better performance. It ended up been a very enjoyable morning, and the boys are getting back to the winning ways of last season. The under 8's will be looking to build on this performance with thier home tie next week against Meltham.
