Wyke 40 v 72 Meltham

On Saturday night Wyke under 8’s played at half time of the Bradford Bulls v’s Hull FC match and unlike their professional counterparts, they entertained the 10,000 Odsal crowd.

On Sunday morning, the children woke up to play host to Huddersfield outfit Meltham. The game kicked off and Wyke were in the ascendancy scoring to early tries through Jabriel Karolia and Harry Owen. Meltham replied with two scores of their own only for Callum Drake and Jake Rayner to push Wyke further in front with a try a piece, one which was converted by Rayner.

Unfortunately, probably due to the excursions of the previous evening the pace of the game seemed to take its toll and Meltham began scoring at will, pushing the half time score to 40 points to 18 in Meltham’s favour.

In the 2nd half, despite being on the back foot, with the score line, Wyke would not lie down, they continued to push forward and after some good driving from Toby Schofield, Joseph Fynn and Owen Cutler, Wyke scored further tries through Dylan Frith, which he dually converted, Jabriel Karolia and Harry Owen.

Again Meltham hit back and scored several tries of their own, although they did not have it all their own way with some good defensive work from McCauley Abraham and joint top tackler Harvey Dimbleby.

Wyke finished the game strongly with Sam Robinson going over for a try and Dylan Frith grabbed his brace of tries

Despite the defeat the children all enjoyed their selves, with Jake Rayner taking the man of the match spoils and Callum Drake being named most improved player
