17 year old first team debutant Lamech Superville stole the limelight with a stunning 7 minute hatrick in an emphatic 62-12 win for Wyke against Wakefield Hawks.

Wyke started the game going down the
town gate slope and it wasn’t long before a smart play from Wykes man of the match Jordan Payton put Calvin Barker through a hole to score out wide. As the wyke forwards started to gain good field position through Ash Hutchinson and Luke Robinson it was left to Brad Clarkson to hit a perfect line off Payton to score on the left. Next came a well deserved try for Robinson from a smart pass from fellow prop Hutchinson. With both packs going at each other a loose ball was seized upon by Payton who went 70 meters untouched. Payton then turned provider when an excellent pin point kick found burley wing man Tevin Campbell out wide to score an acrobatic effort in the corner. In the next set the same move to the opposite corner was well defended when giant wing man Cameron Foster caught the kick only to be held up. The elusive Barker popped up next when smart hands from the Wyke captain Payton found him to stroll in for his brace. Just before half time Jordan Myers was sin binned and the result was a try from the Wakefield outfit under the sticks after defending 3 consecutive sets. Wyke turned round 30-6 after 3 goals from Payton.
The Wakefield side made good use of the extra man scoring early in the second half however that proved to be the catalyst for the black and whites to take them to the cleaners. First Barker went 70 meters to score his hatrick and at that point Coaches Wormald and Barraclough introduced youngster Lamech Superville with 30 minutes on the clock. The next 7 minutes proved to be a fairytale debut for the speedy winger, when he first took a neat looping pass from payton to score in the corner. He then bust a tackle in his own 20 to show his pace and score under the sticks and with fine work from loose forward Oscar Woodhead he steamed on to a pass to score his hatrick which sent the onlooking wyke bench into euphoria. Wyke finished off with a Brad Peel try and another solo effort from Payton to send the Wakefield side home wondering what happened in the past 80 minutes. Clarkson added 4 more goals to make the score 62-12.
Wormald said after the game “I thought we were very good today against a an unknown side that were as good as the other sides we’ve played this season in the league. I asked the forwards to step up today and I think they laid the best possible platform for the backs to do what they do best. We can get better in areas particularly our discipline on the 4th and 5th tackle. Our regular 3 quarters today came under pressure from a couple of our juniors with Lamech scoring a well deserved hatrick and both Connor Harris and Luke Delahunty in the man of the matches for the academy it gives us some positive selection dilemmas, but will also keep players honest. Today was a great day for the club with 2 hatricks (Barker snd Superville) from players who are products of the club, however we start again Tuesday as we now have a tricky run over the next 4 weeks which I hope the squad are looking forward to”.
