The Northern Exiles were always going to have a tough game against a well drilled Hull & District Select side, which wasn't helped by several injuries to 3 key players the day before and an unfortunate Car crash in which two other's were hospitalised. This left the Scotland side playing the full game with only one forward on the bench, 17 year old loose man Matty Faulkener, which showed the amount of effort put in across the team, against a larger, mobile squad of 22 players from East Yorkshire.
The game kicked off at a furious pace, with several big tackles put in from the vocal home side in front of around 500 spectators. After around 10 minutes, Exiles slowly started dominating the stalemate, with Captain Stevie Richardson and fellow prop Martyn Nicholl making inroads through the middle, before 17 year old half backs; Lewis Suddaby and Mark Greenwood created chances for the Beecher twins on the left flank.
Scotland eventually took the lead; a wonderful move in front of the sticks created space, with only a last second cover tackle stopping Paul Walker from going over, a quick play the ball allowed Substitute hooker, Andy Robinson to go over from close range. Mark Greenwood adding the conversion.
It took until the 36th minute to break the Exiles defence, a quick play the ball allowed the Hull side to shift the ball out wide, for the centre to round the fullback and score under the sticks leaving an easy conversion to be kicked.

Half time:
Hull & District - 6
Scotland Exiles - 6

The second half started as furious as the first, from the kick off, the large pack of the home side gaining momentum, with only the scramble defence on several occasions keeping the scores level.
Again, it took another long period of sustained pressure on the away side's half, before a loose pass hit the floor, causing confusion, allowing the home side's centre to pick up the ball and put the winger in the corner making the score 10-6.
After a break in his own half, second rower Matty Mcnee, drew the fullback, passed to supporting Suddaby, who was brought down by the covering winger 10metres from the line. From the resulting play the ball, Greenwood linked up with Veteran Paul Cambell (who was playing his 2nd game after 9 years for Scotland), who spun off a defender, sucked two more in before getting a wonder pass to supporting outside winger Sean Wright to score in the corner. Greenwood's touchline kick unluckily hitting the post, making the scores 10 a piece.
With 7 minutes remaining, the warm weather and lack of forwards on the bench eventually took its toll with the Scotland side slowing down. A lack of communication in defence, allowed the Hull halfbacks to link up, creating space for the left centre to go over in corner untouched. Conversion kicked to make it 16-10.
The reintroduction of Martyn Nicholl and Stevie Richardson from the bench, running off Karl Beardshaw at Hooker, made plenty of metres as the away side pushed for victory.
A short side play, involving several passes, allowed Luke Beecher to make a break, was controversially pulled back for a forward pass by the linesman, another break through the middle was pulled back for a knock on, the chances kept on coming, but time was running out.
A wonderful kick from Hooker by K. Beardshaw, saw a brilliant chase from 10 players nearly forced a drop out, unfortunately, time ran out before the Exiles could push home their advantage leaving the Home side winners by 16 points to 10.
Plenty of commitment by all the players from both sides showed that the annual event will be entertaining every year.
Man of the match, selected by the Hull and District League Management went to second rower Matty Mcnee
