Young Wyke Winger Lamech Superville marked his first start for the black and whites first team by scoring a first half hatrick.

The night started tough for Wyke defending 3 sets on their own line, however in form burley Wingman Tevin Campbell first went 40 meters and then was on the end of a fantastic play from Coby Kittsen to open Wykes account. Again the Wakefield outfit pressed hard and when Jimmy Waine who was outstanding at the back, took a great kick under his own posts, Superville went from acting half to find space and run the full length untouched for his first. He soon followed this up When centre Cameron Foster found him outwide for him to step the oncoming traffic and score his second. Next Foster was found by the impressive Brad Clarkson and his dive in the corner kept the scoreboard ticking over. The Wakefield side continued to probe and eventually got there just deserves when their centre powered in from 10 meters. This clearly rattled the Wyke side who through unsung hero’s, prop Charles Grocock and loose forward Nathan Marchant started to turn the tables and become the aggressors in the game. This laid a great platform for Clarkson to find a high kick to the corner and when the Wakefield winger thimbled it Superville picked it up to dive over for his hatrick. Clarkson added 3 conversions to turn around 26-4 up.
The second half started with a try for Wyke when sprightly debutant, 17 year old Callum Scott found good field position and gave quick ball to the half’s and Gary Worley found Ryan Kershaw who used his bulk to power over. Next Wykes stand in skipper showed why he has taken up the reigns, when he went 50 meters beating the fullback in fine style to score under the sticks. As the impressive Scott started to settle into his role at hooker he found a gap and on his shoulder was pack star Luke Robinson who powered over from 3 meters out for s well deserved try. Another debutant, Jamie Kerr brought the Score to 50 when he was fed by Clarkson with a neat cut out pass and with a lot of work still to do he stepped his way through to plant the ball down under the sticks. With the Wakefield side struggling to handle the powerhouses of Wyke, Robinson, Grocock and Marchant the try of the game was produced when after a quick play the ball on the Wyke 20, Scott went 50 meters and found Clarkson who was caught just before the line only to flick the ball out of the back to find Cullen who superman dived over both Clarkson and the full back. To grab his second of the game. Clarkson added a further 5 conversions to ensure Wyke ended up 56-4 winners in Wakefield. Coach Ian Wormald said after the game “today was a big test for our squad as we had to make numerous changes with a number of key players missing (Oscar Woodhead, Jordan Payton, Calvin Barker, Ash Hutchinson, Ben Kelly and Sam Kittsen). We brought in a couple of debutants in Jamie Kerr and Callum Scott. We also gave Lamech Superville his first start. With all those changes and absentee’s nobody disappointed and I’ve seen tonight that I have a massive squad of players to pick from. This Hawks side we’re no mugs and they have been on the positive end of a similar result last week away at Goole. I thought our forwards were brilliant tonight and especially the starting 5 of Marchant, Grocock, Cullen, Williams and Robinson, their work is not noted by many but it is by me. It was great to see Lamech grab another Hatrick in his first start for us and it was great to see Callum Scott step up tonight and control this group of forwards as he did. The other debutant Jamie Kerr was unlucky not to score a second and these lads are now fighting others for a shirt. I think a lot of credit for what is happening at Wyke open age needs to go to the rest of the coaching team as without these guys it would be hard to enable the players how we are doing. This has been a really positive and also hilarious week in the Wyke open age squad and I’d just like to finish by saying Mr My Details was there tonight and he was super impressed by what we did, he told me he has never seen a Wyke side donwhat we are doing”.
